After a man in England died of continuous laughter on watching an episode of 1970s TV Show ‘The Goodies’, his widow sent a letter to its makers, thanking them for making his final moments so pleasant.
Assata Shakur was a member of the Black Panther Party who, like many other Black activists in the 60s and 70s, became a target of COINTELPRO. As part of the FBI’s campaign against the Black Panther Party, Assata was falsely accused of bank robberies and other crimes up and down the East Coast in the early 1970s. Her real “crime” was fighting for the liberation of Black people and other oppressed peoples from racist oppression.
After she was acquitted six different times on May 2, 1973, Assata, Sundiata Acoli and Zayd Malik Shakur were ambushed by state police on the New Jersey turnpike. A state trooper shot Assata in the arm and back as she had her hands in the air. Another trooper was killed. Zayd Malik Shakur was killed. Sundiata escaped and was later captured after a massive police manhunt.
After her arrest, Assata was shackled and chained to her hospital bed as the police guarding her shouted racist slogans, beat her with shotgun butts and threatened to kill her.
One of the state troopers admitted that he shot and killed Zayd Malik Shakur. But Assata was charged with the killing of Zayd—who she described as her “closest friend and comrade”—as well as with the death of the trooper. Sundiata Acoli was also charged with both deaths. No evidence linked either of them to the shooting of the state trooper. Defense testimony from several expert witnesses made it clear that Assata was not involved in the shooting. Nevertheless, in 1977 an all-white jury convicted Assata and sentenced her to life plus 33 years in prison. Sundiata was sentenced to life plus 30 years. He remains a political prisoner today.
Assata Shakur escaped from prison in 1979 and fled to Cuba, where she lives today in political exile. The United States government has offered a $1 million bounty for her capture.
Note: The bounty was recently changed to $2,000,000 USD. And since the U.S. and Cuba just agreed on easing relations NJPD has already made it expressly clear that they plan on using this as a chance to capture her and answer (or be executed) for crimes she never committed.

Despite supporting one of the highest human population densities, Japan is the first developed country with the highest percentage (74%) of forest-covered land. Japan’s forest management policy began over four centuries ago.
To get a gun in Japan, first, you have to attend an all-day class and pass a written test, which are held only once per month. You also must take and pass a shooting range class. Then, head over to a hospital for a mental test and drug test (Japan is unusual in that potential gun owners must affirmatively prove their mental fitness), which you’ll file with the police. Finally, pass a rigorous background check for any criminal record or association with criminal or extremist groups, and you will be the proud new owner of your shotgun or air rifle. Just don’t forget to provide police with documentation on the specific location of the gun in your home, as well as the ammo, both of which must be locked and stored separately. And remember to have the police inspect the gun once per year and to re-take the class and exam every three years.
Confession
I’m a 17 year old black girl, and I recently visited Japan for 10 days with a program through my city. Surprisingly, this is my second time visiting Japan, the first time occurring two years ago when I was 14. Both times I went, I was EXTREMELY surprised at how beautiful Japanese people found me. If you’re not aware, Japanese culture adores white skin and straight hair. I’m not light skin and my hair is not straight. I’m more of a brown color and my hair is natural 4b. I learn Japanese in school, and I overheard strangers say “‘Wow, she’s so cute!’ ‘Look at how pretty her skin is’ 'Wow, her hair is so cool!’” I even had guys come up to me and tell me (in super cute English) that they like me and that I’m really pretty! I’m telling you guys this because there’s this whole thing that black women aren’t considered pretty in other cultures, and it’s really not true. PLEASE PLEASE PLEAAAASE don’t you EVER think that your beauty is dimmed by the color of your skin, because it’s Really. Not. True. Your brown is beautiful. BONUS: Shoutout to any black K-Pop fans that worry how Korea/Asia may view black girls.
Japan’s overwhelming use of institutions instead of family-based care is failing thousands of vulnerable children by not preparing them for independent, productive lives in Japanese society. According to government statistics, more than 39,000 children in Japan live in different kinds of institutions across the country. These are “alternative care” settings, including infant care institutions, child care institutions, short-term therapeutic institutions, group homes for independent living, and foster care and family homes. The children were removed from their families because the authorities determined that their parents were either unable or unwilling to care for them properly.
